Eleanor Mary Smith, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday January 17, 2017. Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and beloved wife of Deliah Neal Smith, 86, for 62 years. Mother to Terri (Tom) Morath, Steven (Gabriella), Susan and Jennifer (Patrick) Shea. Grandmother to Eric (Amy) Morath, Adam (Natalie) Morath, Caitlin Morath, Mimi Gueits, Olivia, Siobhan, Patrick and Lily Shea. Great grandmother to Eleanor, Mathew and Elizabeth Morath.
Eleanor was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 29, 1934, the youngest of six siblings. She attended Transfiguration, before attending and graduating from St. Clement Grade School and High School in 1952. Eleanor worked at Bell Telephone Co. She married Deliah on August 7, 1954 and raised her family in Southfield, Michigan. Eleanor was a dedicated parishioner and volunteer at the Church of St. Bede. She enjoyed playing pinochle with friends, gardening, knitting, quilting and making ceramics. She spent summer vacations with family in Ludington, Higgins Lake and Lawrence, Michigan.
Eleanor joins her loving parents, Leo and Mary Gmerek, and her siblings, Lawrence, Raymond, Gene, Frances (Pierscinski) and Paul in eternal life.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 21, from 1 PM until the time of the service 3 PM at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 12 Mile Road, Berkley (two blocks west of Woodward Ave).
Private burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
