The canoe in which he was seated was carried over the mill dam. A number of friends stood on the shore and witnessed his struggles to save himself but were powerless to render any help.
Simpson Ray Gaddy, told me his grandfather, Neville Gaddy, drowned in a boat while crossing a river to get another bottle of whiskey.
