Charles Walker Miner, 72, of Powell, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 at his home.

He was born August 20, 1944 in Rogersville, TN, the son of James Edward Miner and Bess Rogers Miner.

Mr. Miner served with the US Air Force from 1963 – 1967. He retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems where he was a Labor Relations Manager at the Y-12 plant. After retirement, he formed EM Corporate Service, a sub-contracting and consultant business.

Mr. Miner was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church. He was an avid Alabama football fan and loved building and driving race cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia Griffin Miner; son, Chuck Miner and wife Amy of Lenoir City and Brett Stringfellow, of Claxton, whom he thought of as a son; brother, Tommy Miner and wife Patricia of Oak Ridge and their children, Jeff Miner and Tim Miner and his wife Melissa; sister-in-law, Wilma Hall and husband Johnny and
brother-in-law, Wendell Griffin and wife Liza, and several nephews and a niece, all of Nashville, Ga; and his granddaughter, Carly Miner of Lenoir City, who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by special family friend, Judy Dasher.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 2 -4pm at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 4 pm with Rev. Brett Stringfellow officiating.

Family and friends will meet on Monday at 2 pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for a graveside service.

The family asks that any memorials be made to the Serenity Club or the American Cancer Society.
