The birth and death dates for William and his middle name of "Akers" were taken from a handwritten document written by Anna Lucille Bowles in 1951. Anna was the daughter of James Marion Bowles and was the granddaughter of William Akers & Lucinda Sarah CLARK Bowles.

William A. Bowles, made his Will on March 29, 1867, and he died a few days later on March 31, 1867. His Will was entered for Probate on April 23, 1867. His Will lists his wife, Lucinda, and twelve of his children as heirs. Williams' 13th child, Henry Jefferson Bowles, born November 19, 1843 and died May 26, 1862, is not listed as an heir since he was deceased.

Most of William's children are found in Jewell County, Kansas, in the 1875 Kansas census.
