Robert V. “Bob”/ “Raphael” Aiken, 85, Altoona, died Tuesday at Maybrook Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Raphael Paul and Marie (Sell) Aiken. On Feb. 14, 1953, he married Phyllis I. Harpster at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, and she preceded him in death in February 2010.

Surviving are three children: Robert P. Aiken (Belinda) and William E. Aiken (June), both of Altoona, and Joseph Vincent Aiken (Erin) of Windsor, Va.; four grandchildren: Jessica O’Neal (Shawn), William, Izabelle and Cassidy Aiken, all of Altoona; a great-granddaughter, Lena; and three siblings: Richard and James Aiken and Eleanor Gill.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tina; four brothers: his infant twin and Terry, Ronald and Paul; and a sister, Suzanne.

Bob was a 1949 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He served in the U.S. National Guard. In 1994, he retired as a boiler operator for Altoona Hospital after 26 years of service.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Altoona, where he was an usher. He was also a member of William Penn Association and Juniata VFW Home Association. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and watching Westerns.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at Jones Funeral Home, 1222 13th Ave., Altoona, where a vigil service for the deceased will be held. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Holy Rosary Church, Altoona, Father Carl E. Vacek, T.O.R., presiding. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Home Nursing Hospice, 201 Chestnut Ave., Altoona, PA 16601, or Holy Rosary improvement fund, 900 N. Fourth St. Altoona, PA 16601.
