Last Friday night at 8:30 Jim Stapleton died at his home in the city of Albany. Jim was a member of the colored population of our town, and one of the landmarks of the place. He was ill only a few days, and his passing was a surprise to all. Jim was a hardworking, industrious, honest man, and had worlds of friends in the city .
Funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased, after which the colored Odd Fellows lodge , of which he was a member, assumed charge of the remains, and at the grave the usual ceremonies of this lodge were administered.
Quite a large crowd was out to attend the burial ceremonies, and among them were quite a number of white folks, among whom the deceased had many friends.
