This poem was written by his daughter Beth for his funeral bulletin:
There are beautiful mansions in Heaven we’re told,
No more sorrow or tears; the streets made of gold.
But heaven has beauty the Good Book doesn’t say;
We will all be amazed when we see them one day.
Golden fields filled with woodcock, quail and some pheasants
With plenty of cover, it’s going to be pleasant.
Setters and pointers with no need for correction
No sickle tailed pooches, their form is perfection.
When hunting is done at the end of the day,
There’s great fishing in heaven that’s not far away.
The drum fish they bite on both ebb and flood tide
All the flounder are “keepers”, no limits applied.
And how do I know this description is true?
It may seem like a myth when I tell it to you.
But if heaven is better than the life we endure,
There has to be hunting and fishing for sure.
Cause my daddy’s in heaven, both happy and free.
His joy is complete; no more pain will he see.
He’s with his old friends and there’s peace in his soul,
So there must be a dog and a good fishing hole.
