NEW LONDON - Ernest "Ernie" Raymond Andrews, III of Maple Ave., New London died Tuesday evening at Yale New Haven Hospital after a recent illness.

He was born Feb 17, 1964 in New London the son of Esther and the late Ernest Raymond Andrews, Jr.

Ernie worked as an English Language Arts teacher for the New London Public School System at the STEM Magnet School at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School. He had also worked as a popular school bus driver in New London for many years. Ernie had also taught at the Haverhill High School and was a womens softball coach and also taught at the ISSAC School in New London. For many years Ernie was a volunteer firefighter in New London and is a member of the Pequot Engine Co. #6. He was also was a member of the former Montauk Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to mother Esther, he is survived by his son Elijah Andrews of Noank, a granddaughter Piper, 5 sisters, Margie Henderson of Riverside, CA, Saundra Christopher of Carry, NC, Sylvia Nelson of Groton, Dawn Artis of Waterford and ReGina Hill of New London and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Ernie’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 11th at the Gymnasium at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, corner of Williams St. and Lincoln Ave., New London. Private burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers and instead make a donation for the benefit of student activities , to BDJMS Student Council, C/O Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, 36 Waller St., New London., CT 06320 Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., has been entrusted with the care of the arrangements.
