Bill was born on June 13, 1918, in Menard, Texas, to August Eckert and Ora Gentry. Bill was raised mostly in and around Junction where he ranched and drove trucks all of his life. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army, where he received 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and one Overseas Bar. He retired from truck driving at the age of 85. After retiring he raised a few goats for his past time. Bill loved his family and enjoyed getting together with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of more than fifty years, Leona; and his daughter, Louise. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter Billie and husband John, seven grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services January 29, 2017, at Kimble Funeral Home with Pastor Donna Carroll officiating. Interment at Junction City Cemetery.
