Michael J. Hancharik, 65, of 411 1/2 Gordon St., Allentown, a former Allentown housing inspector and police officer, died Friday in Sacred Heart Hospital. He was the husband of Julia M. (Marth) Hancharik. They observed their 43rd wedding anniversary in November.

Hancharik was a housing inspector for the City of Allentown for nine years before retiring in 1980. Before that, he was a life insurance underwriter for many years and also served seven years on the Allentown Police Force .

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Maco) Hancharik.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Allentown.

Hancharik was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He served 26 years with the Civil Air Patrol as Pennsylvania Wing Coordinator, Air Rescue and Search, and was recommended for the USAF-CAP Meritorious Service Award in 1965.

Surviving with his widow are a son, Michael J. II of Allentown; four brothers, John of Allentown R.4, Edward and William, both of Allentown, and Joseph of Emmaus; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Dews of Pasadena, Md., and Rosemarie, wife of Frank Dierenbeck of Center Valley, and three grandchildren.

Services at 8:30 a.m. Monday in the Weber Funeral Home, 502 Ridge Ave., Allentown, will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in the church. Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
