Rev. Clyde Hoge Coleman, 90, of Spotsylvania County was called up to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and savior on Tuesday, January 31, 2017.
Rev. Coleman was a World War II Navy Veteran. He attended Bluefield College and was a graduate of the University of Richmond and received his masters from the University of Virginia. He received his honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the Fredericksburg Bible Institute.
Matt. 5:16 states “Let your light so shine before man, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in Heaven”.
Rev. Coleman’s life as a pastor, father, teacher, mentor and friend was exemplified by this verse. A much beloved man of God, he was a gifted preacher, a dedicated and caring pastor, loving husband, father, grandfather, and a steward of God’s word. A man of unwavering faith, Rev. Coleman’s ministry touched countless lives through his sermons, visitations, weddings, funerals, baptisms and witnessing.
Rev. Coleman served as pastor of Travelers Rest Baptist Church from 1954 until Feb. 2015. He spent 32 years with the Spotsylvania County Schools as a teacher, assistant principal at Spotsylvania High School and his final 24 years as principal of Livingston Elementary School retiring in 1991. He was a member of the American Legion Post. 320.
Rev. Coleman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred Lynch Coleman who passed away in June, 2015. They were married for 67 years.
Survivors include their five children, Tim Coleman and his girlfriend, Tracy, John Coleman and wife Karen, Mary Hefner and husband Lee, James Coleman and wife Christie and Sarah Reaves and husband Andre; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews including Judy Graham who faithfully cared for him daily.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Travelers Rest Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
