On Tuesday January 17th, 2017 our loving and beloved wife, mother and grandma passed away peacefully in her sleep after enduring several years of discomfort from various maladies including heart problems, cancer and kidney failure.

We continue to grieve but are glad she is at peace.
Being the strong woman she was, she rarely made a fuss, setting an amazing example for us all.

She was preceded in death by daughter Deborah (Debbie) Irene Burnside (8/12/61), Mother Ida, Father Herman Samuel Finkelstein, brothers Harold and Larry and son-in-law Alex Avendano.

Mom is survived by a loving husband of 64 years, William G. Burnside (Dad), her loving children; son William S. Burnside, daughter Carol Ann Varney (Doug Varney), granddaughter Lindsay, and Bernie and Otis.

She grew up in the Bronx, NY where she had many friends, was an accomplished swimmer and had what seemed to be a good childhood despite growing up during "The Great Depression" and losing her mom much too early.

She spent time in the Navy during the early 50s where she met Dad.
Mom and Dad enjoyed many wonderful years of retirement after 20 years of Naval service and 20 years with AT&T by Dad, and her retirement from the Veteran's Administration in 1989.

They enjoyed three years in London due to Dad being stationed there in the early 60's and enjoyed vacationing in Europe during that time.

For many years after retirement they split their time between West Jordan Utah (summers) and Quartzsite AZ (winters).

They were avid "rock hounds", had countless friends and loved to be in the desert searching for anything of interest that Dad could make jewelry from.

Mom also enjoyed several hobbies including golf, bowling, knitting, various arts and crafts, as well as being a member of the Quartzsite Clowns whom were active with children's charities.

She loved her Bingo as well.
Quick of wit and sharp of tongue she endeared herself to everyone she met.

She was loved by so many and had such a wonderful soul that we are sure she soared on angel's wings to the waiting arms of her beloved daughter Debbie and countless others we've lost.

All family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life 2:00 p.m. Saturday Feb. 4th at

Memorial Redwood Cemetery located at 6500 So.

Redwood Rd., Taylorsville UT 84123 in the main hall.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to all family, friends, and caretakers who supported her through her difficult years.

Please, in lieu of flowers we would appreciate your donation to "The Wounded Warriors Fund".
