Sharon was born December 12, 1929 in Gary, IN, a daughter of the late Durward and Eva Fay (Snearly) Barkley. Her memory will be forever cherished by her loving family: daughter, Angela Dillman and husband Boyce and son, Stephen Foust and wife Kelly, all of Charleston; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Fisher and husband Ryan, Andrew (AJ) Winnett and wife Kaity, Derek Foust, Joey Mills and fiancé Taylor Ellis and Wade Foust; two great-grandchildren, Jace and Blaze Mills; and her twin brother, David Barkley of Charleston. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Mitchell and a brother, Kyle Barkley.
Sharon’s family was the center of her life and most of her activities involved them. She never missed an opportunity to be the head cheerleader for the Foust Racing team at the Charleston Speedway and her grandchildren knew there would be special treats or a home cooked meal when visiting her house. She loved having family dinners and trying new recipes – some even became family favorites such as her ice-cream pie, spaghetti pie and persimmon pudding. Sharon’s home was her sanctuary where birds of all kinds were fed, she tended her small vegetable garden every summer, and at the age of 87 still enjoyed mowing her own lawn. Sharon’s family will always treasure their many fond and loving memories.
