Lorene M. Nelson, 89, of Albion, NE passed away Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Boone County Health Center, Albion, NE.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion with Fr. Mark Tomasiewicz officiating. Burial will be at the St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery at Albion, NE. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Lorene Margaret Nelson, the daughter of Bernard and Catherine (Nepper) Schroeder was born on June 17, 1927 at Raeville, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville, NE. Lorene attended school at St. John Berchman's Catholic School in Raeville until the 10th grade then finished her schooling at the Assumption Academy Convent in Norfolk, NE. Following her schooling she returned home to help on the farm. Lorene lived in Albion, NE where she also worked at JCPenneys.

On April 22, 1947 Lorene was united in married to Kim L. Nelson at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Raeville, NE. The couple lived in Albion, NE where she worked as a housewife raising their 7 children. Kim passed away in July of 1981.

Lorene was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Altar Society where she held all offices. Lorene was devoted to her husband, her family, and her Catholic faith.


Survivors include Mary K. (Denny) Sullivan of Omaha, NE; Karen M. (Orrin) Hoppe of Yuma, AZ; Janice A. (Jim) Webster of Albion, NE; Jody (John) Brengelman of Albion, NE; Susan M. (John) Frey of Albion, NE; Kim P. (Sue) Nelson of Manhattan, KS; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister Antoinette Cooper of Gretna, NE; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kim, son Richard M. Nelson and 10 brothers and sisters.
