Nancy Bilardello May, 47, of West Dundee, Illinois died on December 22, 2016 in her home in West Dundee, due to complications from breast cancer. Nancy was born in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in nearby Naperville, proudly graduating from Naperville North in 1987. She fled the cold winters for the warmth of Arizona, and came home with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Arizona State. In 2015, she earned a master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education from Lewis University. Nancy taught special education preschool for eight years. She spread her joyous smile across lessons in many classrooms, most recently at deLacey Family Education Center in District 300. Nancy believed in community. She raised three children, and a village around her. What she helped build with her friends in her West Dundee neighborhood is special and treasured (and certified by ABC’s Good Morning America as the “Best Block in America”). Nancy shared a deep faith and loved experiencing God’s beauty out in the woods. She was a born leader and shared her unbounded energy, doing the things dancing to Prince, hiking in Arizona, competing in triathlons, arguing at book clubs, and kayaking in Wisconsin. She was particularly fond of a patch of woods in the western shore of Lake Cayuga near Trumansburg, New York.
Nancy is survived by her three children, Mary Evelyn, Jackson, and Andrea, her husband of 20 years, John; parents Barb and Dan Bilardello, sister Lisa Hurley, and brother John Bilardello, all of Naperville; and brother Dave Bilardello of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, and many, many friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 26 from 3:00 P.M. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church 845 W. Main St in West Dundee followed by a Funeral Mass at 6:00 P.M. . Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Nancy’s name to the deLacey Family Education Center, 50 Cleveland Avenue, Carpentersville, IL, 60110.
The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is assisting the family with all arrangements.
