Mildred “Marie” Bilbo, 86, went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2017 at the Wayne T Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was born on June 24, 1930 in Franklin County Mississippi to John Edwin “Ed” and Vivian Fleming Bilbo.

Marie grew up in the Sixtown Community of Franklin County, Mississippi. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and taught elementary school for 39 years, almost all in Franklin County.

In addition to teaching, Marie had a love for cooking, always eager to fill requests for cakes and pies. After retirement, she published two cookbooks of her recipes and shared recipes from friends and family. Several of her recipes were featured in “Southern Living Magazine”.

Marie and her niece, Gladys Bailey, moved from Mississippi to South Carolina in 2006 to be closer to their immediate family. Marie lived in senior living facilities and was with her family when five of her six great-great nephews were born.

Marie is survived by her nephews, Ralph Bailey and Billie Roberts; her niece, Gladys Bailey; her great nephews, Jeffrey Bailey and John Bailey; her great nieces, Jamie Bailey Rayo and Allison Bailey Odom; and her great great nephews, Jared Rayo, twins Bailey and Carter Odom, Owen Bailey, and twins Luke and Will Bailey.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Vivian Bilbo; her siblings, Owen Bilbo, Earline Harden, and Ola Bailey; and her nephew, James Bailey.

A memorial service will be held at Marie’s home church, Siloam Baptist Church in Franklin County at 2pm, February 4. Burial will be in the church cemetery.The family will receive visitors on February 3 between 6pm and 8pm at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville and on February 4 between 1pm and 2pm at Siloam Baptist Church, just prior to her memorial service. Rev. Leon Wallace and Dr. Matt Buckles will officiate the service.

The family requests memorials be made to Siloam Baptist Church, 8031 Highway 98 East Meadville, Mississippi 39653, to help fund the construction of a new children’s play area.

Pallbearers are Jeffrey Bailey, Jared Rayo, Billie Roberts, David Campbell, Howard Wilkinson, and Clinton Carraway.

Honorary Pallbearers are Barry Dillard and Dewitt Bilbo.
