Art was born and raised in Pawtucket, RI, the second oldest of four sons born to Arthur F. Little and Edith Hyde Little. He is pre-deceased by brothers Peter and Stevan, and is survived by Lester, of Northampton, MA. He attended high school in Pawtucket and was a standout basketball and tennis player, and an Eagle Scout. Arkie, as he was known by friends, earned his undergraduate degree in history from Dartmouth College in 1953, and was an active alumnus until his final days.
After college, he served his country in the Army as an intelligence officer before beginning a 30 plus year career with Otis Elevator.
Art is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (Fay) Little, his daughter Deborah Little Beal, his sons Arthur F. Little III and his wife Susan Laster Little and Robert F. Little and his wife Jeanine M. Little, and his five grandchildren: Austin, Heather, James, David, and Danny.
Very active in Longmeadow's First Church of Christ, Art served as a Sunday School teacher, a Deacon and on their Board of Trustees.
His hobbies included gardening, water color painting, travel, and volunteering at a local art gallery. Art would enthusiastically tackle any home project and seldom failed to complete it. His humble, thoughtful and gentle manner, aided by his quick wit, earned him many life-long friends.
A celebration of Art's life will be held later this summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96001 Washington, D.C. or at www.alz.org.
