He and his twin brother, Ed Garfield "Shack" Herring, were one of at least three known sets of twins born to John & Pauline Herren. The other two sets were King David Herring & Queenie Mae (Herring/Herren) Boyd (1924), the latter who survives; and Betty Bernice (Herren) Henson and Bennie Herren (1936), the latter who also survives.

Even though John and Pauline Lancaster Herren were the parents of all of his siblings, some of them went by Herren instead of Herring.

Fred B. Herring, 78, of 14A Hudson Heights, Bowdon, died Nov. 18, 2007.

Mr. Herring was born June 15, 1929, in Randolph County, Ala., to the late John and Pauline Lancaster Herring.

Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Ed Garfield Herring; three brothers, William Herring, King David Herring and Taylor McLemore; three sisters, Aretha Stephens, Julia Wiggs and Virginia Holloway; and four adopted siblings Ethel Madden Dallas, Mable Madden Garrett, and Luther Madden, and R. C. Madden.

Survivors include his three daughters and a son; three brothers, including Willis Roy Herren and Stell Herring (both deceased); three sisters, including Wylene Stephens and Bernice Henson (both deceased); and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. (Georgia time) at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Woodland, Ala.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 7 p.m.
