GLOVERSVILLE - George Barr, who operated Johnstown Restaurant Supply, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Mr. Barr, of South Park Drive, was 86.
Born and educated in Brooklyn, Mr. Barr was a resident of Gloversville for more than 55 years.
At his death, he had operated the Johnstown Restaurant Supply for more than 50 years, a business that he originally established as the Thrift House Equipment Store of Johnstown.
At one time, he was a reporter for The Leader-Herald newspaper.
His first wife, Hannah Barr, died in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Kaseta Barr; a son, Richard Barr of New York City; a daughter, Ellen Froum of Oradell, N.J.; three stepsons, Martin Tamulaitis of Johnstown, David Tamulaitis of Seaford, Long Island, and Jim Tamulaitis of Northville; two stepdaughters, Joan Otero of Gloversville and Christine Auerbach of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Irving Barr of East Meadow, N.Y., and Allen Barr of Waymouth, Mass.; a sister, Betty Hoffman of Brooklyn; and three grandchildren.
A service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave.
There are no calling hours.
Burial will be in Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island.
