Shadow Branice McClaine, 25, from Yuba City, CA, was tragically taken from us on September 3, 2016 in Clarksville, Tennessee while serving in the United States Army.

She was born on January 2, 1991 in Roseville, CA and graduated from Yuba City High School in 2009.

She joined the US Army in September 2011, where she was trained as an air traffic controller. She served her country in Korea, Afghanistan and was stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky as part of the 101st Airborne at the time of her death.

She was scheduled to be discharged from the army in October 2016.

She was excited about returning to Yuba City and planned to attend college and explore career opportunities in photography. Shadow loved the outdoors, fishing with her father, hiking, rollerblading and loved to read. She knew what she wanted and went after it. She was strong, smart and creative. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survived by her mother, London (Jeremy) Wegrzyn; father, Jesse (Debbie VanBogart) Willis; brothers, Ethan Wegrzyn and Aidan Wegrzyn; sister Liz Leathers; nephews Hunter and Ezra; niece Harper on the way; maternal grandparents, Carrie McClaine, Glen (Connie) McClaine; paternal grandparents, Janet and Bill Willis; step grandparents Brenda and Thomas Wegrzyn; many cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and friends.

Services for Shadow will be held on February 11, 2017 at noon at Crossroads Community Church at 445 B Street, Yuba City, CA.

Shadow went missing Sept 2, 2016. She was supposed to be discharged from the Army in October.

Her remains were discovered January 23, 2017, at an exit off Interstate 24 in Robertson County, TN.

A cause of death is still under investigation.

Shadow's ex-husband, Sgt. Jamal Williams-McCray and Specialist Charles Robinson III, both part of the 101st Airborne Division, in which Shadow served as a Private First Class, face charges of conspiracy, kidnapping and premeditated murder under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Feb 28, 2019: Sgt. Jamal Williams-McCray admitted to having his ex-wife Shadow Branice McClaine killed and to helping hide her body. He plead guilty in military court at Fort Campbell to charges including premeditated murder, 2 counts of conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation to commit murder and conspiracy to obstruct justice. In exchange for the plea, he won't face the death penalty.

March 1, 2019: A Judge sentenced Sgt. Jamal Williams-McCray, 27, to life in military prison, but a sealed deal with the convening authority over his case means he could be eligible for parole in 10 years and sets a max of 75 years in military prison. He also gets credit for the 875 days he has been in jail.
