Thomas (Tom) Nielson Ashley, died unexpectedly in his home in Montgomery, AL on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the age of 52.

Tom is survived by his wife, Eunhee Ashley (née Lee), his son Jaemin Ashley, 18, and daughter Jaehee 13, his siblings Marian Ashley, Katherine Ashley Ward and James Ashley. He is preceded in death by his parents Rhoda Jane Nielson Ashley and William Thomas Ashley.

Thomas was born on July 23, 1964 to Bill and Rhoda Ashley. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1986 with a degree in Political Science and International Relations. Tom received a Masters in Public Health from the University of Utah. He married EunHee Lee in Seoul, Korea in 1995. Tom and his family moved to Montgomery over 10 years ago as he began working for Mobis Corporation. Most recently he was the Mobis purchasing manager in the Montgomery plant. Tom greatly enjoyed his tenure at Mobis and the wonderful friends and colleagues with whom he associated there. Tom's pride and joy was in the success and accomplishments of his children. Jaemin entered West Point Military Academy, on a full scholarship, on August 13, 2016, and Jaehee has been THE top student in her middle school for two consecutive years.

An international man of mystery, our darling Tom was a complex, and private man...with a wicked and intelligent sense of humor. A scholar and a gentleman, had he not had his beautiful family on whom to focus and to bring him joy, Tom would have been happy in a room surrounded by books. He was a voracious reader throughout his life. He enjoyed politics, travel and school -- attending law school in addition to receiving his Masters Degree in Public Health. Tom could have been a student in perpetuity if love and life would have allowed it. He loved to play games and his family will especially miss dominoes and card games with him. Tom loved playing basketball and football with his son Jaemin, and enjoyed the musical and dance performances of his daughter, Jaehee. Tom dearly loved and was ever impressed by the many talents and sparkling personality of his dear wife, Eunhee. He also patiently endured the mothering of his two sisters. Tom left us all too soon.

A truly humble and decent man, Tom is much beloved by his wife and children, his mother, his two sisters and brother and will be missed beyond measure. Until we meet again, dearest husband, father, son, and brother.

A funeral is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Friday, September 2, 2016 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 6670 Vaughn Rd. Montgomery, AL 36116. A visitation time precedes the funeral from 9:00 - 11:00 at the same location. Pastor Randy Jones will officiate the ceremony. He will be interred at Alabama Heritage Cemetery following the funeral.
