Margaret (Kathy) Smith Dudley went home to her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2017. Margaret, known as Kathy to friends, was born and raised on Vanzant Bend in Belvidere, TN. One of two daughters on a working farm, she learned the value of hard work at an early age, a trait that would serve her well throughout her life. Many joyful hours were spent among family and close friends on the river during her childhood.
Margaret was known for her tenacity, generosity, intelligence and creativity. She owned and operated the Headquarters Beauty Salon in Sewanee, TN for more than 25 years. She cared deeply for her clients, counted many of them as close friends and considered it a privilege to be part of their special events.
Margaret was a master gardener and talented seamstress. In her younger days, she designed and sewed for many. It was said that she could make anything she saw. A gifted home cook, she spent many hours cooking for and visiting with others in need. Margaret found peace in nature and among animals, many of which benefitted from her caring spirit.
Margaret was a strong-willed woman who never gave up on anyone. Her encouragement helped more people than she ever knew. She was a friend to the misunderstood and unaccepted, and was happiest when she was helping someone.
Margaret was preceded in death by her loving parents, Charles and Mary Pierce. She is survived by her husband, Ed Dudley of Altamont, TN; her children, Scott Jenkins (Gina) of Winchester, TN; Shannon Jenkins (Pam) of Cowan, TN and Justin Smith of Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands; seven grandchildren, Gracie and Emily Jenkins; Lily, Rivers, Mary Mason and Fisher Jenkins; and Kaiden VonOhlen; one sister, Charlene Harper of Stevenson, AL; stepdaughters, Terri Sanders (Jay)of Monteagle, TN, Beth Hernandez (Alex) of Chattanooga, TN, Kim Rymer and Corey Mattheson of Altamont, TN; 9 step-grandchildren; and 4 step great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be 5-8 pm Friday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Moore-Cortner Chapel with interment to follow at Lynchburg Cemetery.
