Mark Allen Porter of Deland, Florida formerly of Red Oak, Iowa died unexpectedly at his home on January 22, 2017 at the age of 37.
Mark was born in Red Oak, IA on January 8, 1980 to Ronnie and Joanie (Selser) Porter. He grew up between Red Oak and Omaha, NE, and absolutely hated the cold weather. He was very involved with wrestling and 4H and received many trophies for both. When his mom moved to Florida, he jumped at the chance for some warm weather. He finished high school after moving to Deland. On August 10, 2012, he married Anna Masur on the beach in Ponce Inlet, FL. They resided in Deland. On September 18, 2012, he welcomed his beautiful son, Joe Allen Porter, who was the most important part of his life. Mark spent the first 6 months of Joe’s life taking care of him and he simply adored his son.
Mark was a devoted father and an avid fisherman and hunter. He really enjoyed going to the gun range and having mini competitions with his friends and always proved to be a better shot. He was deeply in love with most types of music and felt that music helped to complete him. He frequently played both computer games and console games and enjoyed teaching the kids tactics and strategies. He really enjoyed riding his Harley and just loved how the wind hit his face. Mark loved the idea that he could ride pretty much anywhere he wanted and took quite a few long trips with his stepdad, Ron. They traveled to Key West three separate times, to North Carolina, to Washington DC, and to New Orleans and rode as many beautiful highways as they could. Mark and Anna frequently took trips together and Mark spent a lot of time trying to teach Anna the ways of the ride. Mark was very kind hearted and always was the person who would give the shirt off his back for anyone he loved. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Preceding Mark in death were his father, Ronnie Porter; and grandparents, Albert Selser and Frank and Virginia Porter. Mark is survived by his mother, Joanie Zychowski and stepfather Ron of Red Oak, IA; his wife, Anna Porter (née Masur) and their son, Joe Porter and step children, Alyssa and Aiden Morris all of Deland, FL; his grandmother, Joan Selser of Red Oak, IA; his siblings, Gary Porter (Roni) of Red Oak, IA and Angela Larsen of Omaha, NE; step sisters, Jennifer and Margaret and their families of Omaha, NE and Katheryn and her family of Lincoln, NE; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
