Stella Christine Herndon White, 80, of Garden City/Richmond Hill, Georgia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 23rd, 2017, after battling the cruel and unrelenting disease of dementia for several years.
She was born in Lake Park , Georgia on August 11, 1936, to the late Willie C. and Dora Mae Herndon. Stella was second to the oldest of six children.

Stella married Harold Thomas White on May 9, 1952, in Valdosta, a marriage that lasted for 64 years. On the night that Thomas met Stella, he knew she was the girls of his dreams, asking that very night if she would like to become Mrs. White. Thomas always said Stella was his sweetheart.

After marriage to Thomas, the family moved many times due to his work requirements. They lived in Ormond Beach, Oak Hill, Lake Park, Tunnel Hill, Shady Dale, Savannah, Kingsland, Richmond Hill, Brunswick, and Garden City. After her illness progressed, they moved to Richmond Hill to be in the care of family.

Stella was a devoted member of Central Baptist Church in Garden City, since 2000. She loved her church family and was blessed with many friendships. Prior to her illness, she rarely missed a church service and she taught Sunday School in the Children’s Department, which she loved with all her heart.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was an extraordinary cook, making the best turkey and dressing ever eaten. She enjoyed family special occasions and dinners. Stella’s undeniable favorite pastime was shopping.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Thomas White. Also, a sister Blanche Haymans Beasley, of Collins, a brother, Rusty Herndon of Jennings, Florida and James Herndon of Gray, Georgia.

Her children include a son, David White and wife Pam of Guyton; son, Roy White and wife Cindy of Richmond Hill; daughter, Cathy Saxon and husband Chris of Tillman, SC; and daughter Lynn Mayer of Pooler.

Stella, affectionately called “Mema,” is survived by seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren: Christy White of Richmond Hill and children Emma and Evan; Staci Renfro and her husband Alex of Guyton and son Kale; Kevin White and his wife Angelia of Richmond Hill and children Caleb and Ryan; Jennifer Mayer of Staten Island, New Jersey and children Anthony, Brooklyn, and Gianna; Christopher Handy and his wife Chelsey and son Jackson Handy of Midway; Jamie Mayer of Pooler; Danielle Arnold and her husband Micheal of Pooler and children Maddox and Mason.

A visitation with the family will be held at Strickland Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 on Wednesday, January 25th . Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 26th, at 2:00 at Central Baptist Church, Garden City. Burial will at Daniel Baptist Cemetery, Richmond Hill. The Rev. Kenny Harrelson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Children’s Ministry of Central Baptist Church, 4010 Old Louisville Road, Garden City,
