James Clark Mills, Jr. was the son of James Mills Sr. and Susan Spaun Mills of Wood County, Ohio. James, Jr. moved to Michigan and before leaving married Sophia Evangeline Frankfather at Bloomdale, Wood County, Ohio, on 24 December 1900. James Jr. died at Howell, Livingston County, Michigan, on 10 February 1929 and Sophia Evangeline (S. Eva) died on Otober 25, 1961.

They had four children: Josephine Isabell Mills (6 Aug 1911-9 Oct 1911), Robert James (9 May-18 May 1913), Willis Carl (6 June 1924-13 May 1984), and Ralph (20-June-20 June 1927)

They are buried next to one another near other Mills family members in the North Star Cemetery in Gratiot County, Michigan.
