SUDDEN DEATH OF AN ESTIMABLE LADY. —Mrs. Catharine Williams, wife of Gerome Williams, Esq., of this city, died at her residence, No. 67 Catharine street, on Thursday afternoon, quite suddenly. On Monday last the deceased was taken with a cold, but she did not complain of feeling very bad, and nothing much was thought of it by the members of her family. On Thursday during the forenoon she seemed to feel considerably better, but after twelve o'clock her throat began suddenly to fill up, making it quite difficult for her to breathe. She continued to grow worse, and despite the best medical assistance, in a short time after was dead. Mrs. Williams was quite a large fleshy woman, and this is supposed to have somewhat aggregated the case. She had been up and around during the day, and seemed to feel in excellent spirits. Congestion of the lungs is supposed to have been the immediate cause of her death. In the family circle, in the immediate neighborhood where she resided, in fact, wherever known, the deceased was a lady universally respected and beloved. News of her sudden demise will cause a general feeling of despondency to prevail, her ministrations to the sick and needy, and a willingness at all times to make everything pleasant and comfortable for those around her, were also prominent traits in her character. She leaves behind besides a husband, five children, all grown up, to mourn her loss. The family will have the sympathy of the entire community in their sudden bereavement. The notice of the funeral well be found in another column.

Additional Information - Catharine Emigh Williams was the daughter of George P. Emigh and Elizabeth Prindle. Originally from Great Barrington, Mass. they moved to Union Vale, Dutchess Co, N.Y. in the 1820's. She married Gerome Williams and they had several children - George H. (1844-1919), Amelia (1846-1930), Jarvis (1848-1859), Emily K. (1851-1941), Frank D. (1852-1897), Frederick (1856-1863), and Eugene (1858-1889). Information per U.S. Census data, family records, and death records.
