She was the daughter of the late Wm. Emmett and Ina Goodman Jefferson of Penhook, VA.
She is survived by her husband of over 49 years, Charles T. Walker of Moneta; a step-daughter, Susan Youngman of New Smyrna Beach, FL; step-son Vincent L. Walker of Columbia, MD; a brother, J. Joseph Jefferson of Kingsport, TN and sisters-in-law, Elsie Jefferson, widow of her late brother, W. E. Jefferson, Jr. and Patricia Myhre of Fort Collins, CO. She was preceded in death by her sister Mattie Louise Moulds. Other survivors include 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
She was an active member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church of Moneta and was noted for her involvement in supporting many community organizations including the Smith Mountain Lake Charity Home Tour, American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop, Smith Mountain Arts Council, a docent at Poplar Forest and served as a trustee of the Bedford Community Health Foundation and the Bedford Library System. Her other activities included membership in the Pearls of Wisdom Book Club, SML Newcomers, SML Area Wine Club, Friends of Moneta/SML Library, Bedford International Alliance and Friends of SML State Park.
Burial will be private. A service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Moneta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Discovery Shop, 400 Scruggs Rd., Moneta, VA 24121 or Poplar Forest, P.O. Box 419, Lynchburg, VA 24551.
