LE MARS, Iowa — Loretta Schroeder, 92, of Le Mars died , Monday, May 25, 1998, at the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Richard Ries officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery at Oyens, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mrs. Schroeder was born Nov. 26, 1905, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Fitzpatrick) LaVelle. She was raised near Struble, Iowa, where she attended country school and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1924. She taught country school.

She married Clarence Schroeder in 1929. The couple farmed near Oyens until his death in 1935. She moved to Le Mars, where she resumed teaching country schools until 1942. She was then employed in management at the Sear Roebuck mail order store in Le Mars. She later managed the Montgomery Ward catalogue store until retiring in 1970.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, where she served on various circles.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gene and Carine of Doon, Iowa and Bob and Vi of Le Mars; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Herb Montgomery of Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Romie, Aloysius "Bud", Marc, Edmund and Maurice; and two granddaughters, Mary Virginia and Mary Loretta Schroeder.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Terri, David, Jay and Mike Schroeder, Mark and John Montgomery, Julie Leitschuck and Ann Riley.
