JOHN ADKINS SR. was the son of Will "Willie" Adkins and Mrs. Luvenia (Williams Buchanan) Adkins.

He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Leigh, Texas.

Funeral services were held at the chapel at Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas.

JOHN ADKINS (age 78) was laid to rest on Saturday, August 25, 1981 on the grounds of Antioch Cemetery in Leigh, Texas.

The obituary further reported that he was "survived by three sons, Gene Adkins and John Adkins Jr., both of Marshall, and Honor B. Jackson, of Las Vegas, Nevada; four daughters, Willie Mae Miller, Johnnie Mae Goodman and Dorothy N. Lamb, all of Gardens, California, and Ruth Ella Carruthers, of Houston; one brother, Willie Adkins, of Tyler; six sisters, Mary Hygh, Tenzie Jackson and Essie May, all of Karnack, and Candacy Buchanan, Ophelia Fowler and Earnestine White, all of Dallas; and 22 grandchildren."
