Henry Edsel Hartman Sr., age 89, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday morning, January 24, 2017 in a Ooltewah health care facility. Bishop Hartman was the son of the late Ritha Belle Bain Hartman and Clarence Hartman. His first wife, Mary Louise Sherrill Hartman, his second wife, Aileen Ward Lane Hartman and his brother, George Nathan Hartman also preceded him in death. Bishop Hartman was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and he was a graduate of the Chattanooga Central High School. In his early life, he did some evangelistic work for the Church of God of Prophecy and he worked for a short while, part time in the Post Office in Tennessee and West Virginia. After he was married, he and his wife Pastored churches in Ohio, West Virginia and Tennessee. He pastored the Arrowhead Church of God of Prophecy in Knoxville for 20 years. He has also served as State Secretary for the State of Tennessee and as State Treasurer for the State of West Virginia all for the Church of God of Prophecy. He also served as a District Overseer in Ohio and in Tennessee. For the International Offices of the Church of God of Prophecy, he served on the Ways and Means Committee for 15 years and during his final year as a Chairman of the Committee. Church was his life and he was known for his Pastor's Heart for people! He loved Ice Cream and his memory was extraordinary. Bishop Hartman was a member of the Arrowhead Church of God of Prophecy in Knoxville and since being in Cleveland he has attended the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy where he served as part of the Chaplaincy. He enjoyed the Chaplaincy work. He also enjoyed being active with the church's Senior Group.

Survivors include his sons, Eddie Hartman and his wife Emily of Cleveland, Ronnie Hartman and his wife Melba of Nashville, Tennessee, his step daughter, Susan Lane Pritchett and her husband James, his step son, Gerald Lane and his wife Jill all of Knoxville, Tennessee, his grandchildren, Leslie Hartman, Marcus Hartman, Phillip Hartman, Shannon Hartman Poe, Misty Akers and her husband Jake, Ashley Hartman and Halle Hartman, his great grandchildren, Bailey Beam, Kayden Akers and Justin Poe, his step grandchildren, Kara, Colin, Linda, Bobby, Lori and Lana and several step great grandchildren, his sister, Pauline "Polly" Lopez of Signal Mountain and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1:00 from the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy with Londa Richardson, Pastor Adam Jones, David Taylor and Connie Kennard officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until the service time at 1:00 Thursday at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy. Another Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Friday, January 27, 2017 at 1:00 from the Arrowhead Church of God of Prophecy, 3113 West John Sevier Highway, Knoxville Tennessee, with Pastor Terry Barnwell, Bishop Robert Ledford and Pastor Ken Dyer officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until the service time at 1:00 on Friday at the Arrowhead Church of God of Prophecy. Interment will follow on Friday at the Berry Highland South Memorial Park with family and friends serving as casket bearers and will be held private for the family.
