Marquis L. Kenyon was the son of Harlow Clayton (H.C.) Kenyon and Kate Kenyon. He was no doubt the namesake, named after his uncle, Marquis L. Kenyon, who owned an extensive line of stages at Rome, Oneida County, New York. His uncle played an important part in developing the Overland Butterfield Stage line to California.

Marquis married on 29 Aug 1875, San Jose, Santa Clara, California to Elizabeth A. Kelley, per California Marriage record. She was born in Maryland, her parents were immigrants from Ireland. They had two sons, Walter and Mark, both born in California. The burial record of their son, Mark, indicates his mother was born in Baltimore, Maryland.

Mark Kenyon's obituary indicated he died at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Balbach, Jr. He was previously engaged in the grocery business, later employed by Santa Clara Valley Mill and Lumber Company. Two sons survived him, Walter and Mark Kenyon, both residents of San Jose, California. He was also the brother of C. S. Kenyon, School Trustee.

His burial record was noted in Trinity Church, San Jose, California: Advent, 1860, to Easter, 1903.
