Charlotte (Reardon) O'Brien-Stensvold

Charlotte Mae, 91, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2017. She was born in Anaconda, MT on May 15, 1925 to Charlotte (Lappin) and James Raymond Reardon I, the 7th of 8 children. She attended St. Peters Catholic Schools and graduated from Great Falls College. She taught first grade in Drummond, MT until moving to San Francisco in 1947.

She married Thomas F. O'Brien in 1948 in San Francisco. They had many friends and enjoyed traveling (including cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal and trips to Japan, Germany, Ireland and Europe). Vacations included annual trips to Montana to visit her parents, seven siblings and 24 nieces and nephews. She attended as many family events as possible. Her first husband, "Tommy", passed away in 1976. Her career with Pac Bell spanned over 30 years, retiring in 1980, when she was able to spend more time with her sisters and family in Montana and with her brother "Jimmy" and family in Napa Valley.

In 1984, she married LeRoy O. Stensvold and was warmly welcomed to his family by his four grown children and their families. Roy and Charlotte enjoyed attending family events and traveling to Alaska, Europe and through the U.S. In no time, Charlotte was initiated into the Stensvold family parties and celebrations and Roy into the Reardon family clan at Georgetown Lake, MT.

Charlotte was an active member of St. Cecilia and St. Gabriel's Catholic Parishes, proudly being "grandparent" and prayer partner to kindergarten classes at St. Gabriel's. Charlotte had a great memory and enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in Anaconda with fun details about her six sisters, one brother and her nieces, nephews, cousins, and step-children.

She lived independently most of her adult life. Only recently did she depend on staff at Alma Via SF, Hearts That Matter and Hospice in Napa, CA. We are indebted to her step-children, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and caregivers for offering their support and caring over the last few years.

Aunt Charlotte was predeceased by her parents, two husbands Tommy O'Brien and LeRoy O. Stensvold, her brother, James Raymond Reardon II, sisters, Jerry (Reardon) Jenkins, Gertrude (Reardon) Martin Flynn, Rita (Reardon) Solan, Eleanor (Reardon) Merrick, Florence (Reardon) Olson, Marie Reardon, her step-daughter Judie Sellers, and her nephew, Charles Olson.

She is survived by her three step-children, numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren and cousins. Her strong Catholic faith and devotion to family will be her legacy.

A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be celebrated on January 30th at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, 2559-40th Avenue, in San Francisco. Private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Gabriel's Church.
