Mr. John Robert Sturdivant, 91, of Andrews Store Road., Pittsboro, NC passed away February 18, 2011 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. John was born in Chatham County to the late William R. and Novie Eubanks Sturdivant. John was predeceased by his wife Evon Upchurch Sturdivant. John was one of 11 siblings and was predeceased by sisters, Addie Powell, Jessie Andrews, Mary Griffin and brothers, Paul, Gene, James, Edgar, and Grady Sturdivant.

He is survived by his daughter, Kaye Martinez; son, Douglas Sturdivant; step-daughters, Joanne Hackney Sturdivant, Brenda Hodges; step-son, Wayne Bowden; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Penninger; brother, Larry Sturdivant; numerous nieces and nephews.

John was employed by Farmers Dairy in Chapel Hill which became Long Meadow Farms, and then became Flavor Rich in 1978 where he retired as credit manager. John later worked several years for Brad and Gray Moody. John served his country with pride during World War II with the Army Air Corp stationed in England; he obtained the rank of Sergeant.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Nipper, Brad Moody, Kent Penninger, Kenneth Sturdivant, Ronnie Griffin and Ricky Sturdivant. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of the dairy.
