"Susan Jane Rose, 78, passed away peacefully with family close by her side at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA on January 22, 2017.

She is survived by her childhood sweetheart Arthur H. Rose (Bucky) whom she married in 1956.

Susan was born to Leeta A Guether on May 11, 1938 in Endicott, NY. She was a graduate of Honesdale High School. While she was still in High School she took a job as a switch board operator in Honesdale.

Susan was a devoted wife and mother for over 60 years. In addition to her childhood sweetheart they had 5 children: Col (Ret) Michael S Rose Sr and wife Judith of Renick WV; David L Rose of Clarks Summit PA; Timothy M Rose who was called home to the Lord in 1997; Holly M Hubert and husband Kenneth of Honesdale, PA and Thomas A Rose and wife Diane of Oley, PA. Susan and Art were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with their entire family for a week long celebration in June of 2016.

One of Susan's greatest joys in her life was seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and flourish no matter their ages. Grandchildren are: Michael S Rose, Jr; Brandi A. Corvigno; April A Rose; Brittney L Hubert; Kendra M Hubert; Mitchell K Hubert; Avery B Rose; Caleb T Rose; Ellie J Rose. Great- Grandchildren are: Victoria; Jaxon; Aleka; Elijah; Hugh; Jacob; and Aaron.

Susan had a special place in her heart for Gretchen and Lee Enslin and the staff at Gretchen's Grotto. Her and Art could be found there most days during the lunch hour. Her presence will be greatly missed.

Susan stayed at home to raise her children until her youngest went to school. At that time she took a part time job as the dessert specialist at Kreitner's Restaurant in Honesdale for many years. However, she was always home when her children got home from school.

As her children were involved with Honesdale High School sports, both her and Art were involved with the Athletic Booster Club and held officer positions. She also served as treasurer with Altar and Rosary Society at St. Johns the Evangelist Parish. For 20 years she spent time every week in mediation and prayer with Perpetual Eucharist Adoration.

She was a bright shining star in our family. She made us laugh when we didn't want to, made us sit and eat when we wanted to run out the door, she made us feel better when we were sick; she taught us to be good people. Her legacy will remain in the hearts of those that she touched deeply.

Art and his family would like to thank Wayne Memorial Hospice, especially Charlene Whitmore, all the nurses and staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital for caring for our wife, mother, and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Project Linus, Wayne County, PA Chapter that Susan's daughter Holly coordinates. It would be a great honor to spread love by offering handmade blankets to children who are sick, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

Please make checks payable to Project Linus, 160 Slish Road Honesdale, PA 18341.

Arrangements are attended by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 4:00-7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Honesdale on Thursday, January 26, 2017 beginning at 11:00am followed by a graveside service."
