Patricia Hibbard Kraus, 74, Sarasota, passed away January 13, 2017. She was the widow of Charles T. Kraus, who passed away January 31, 2015.
Pat was born in Montrose, PA, the first child of Carl and Shirley (Vandyke) Hibbard. She grew up on the family dairy farm in Springville, PA. The eldest of four children, Pat revered her farm upbringing. She was the first Dairy Princess from Susquehanna County, representing PA Area 5.
She was a graduate of Elk Lake High School, Dimock, Pa. class of 1960. She continued her education at the C. S. Wilson School of Nursing, Johnson City, NY, attaining her Registered Nursing degree in 1964.
On September 12, 1964, she married the love of her life, Charles T. Kraus. They lived in Meshoppen, Pa., where he was a dairy farmer and she worked at the local hospital. Charles soon entered the Navy , and they lived in several parts of Florida during his service years, settling in Sarasota. Pat was employed by Sarasota Memorial Hospital for the rest of her career. She and Charles spent their final years together at Lake Toxaway, NC.
In addition to being a dedicated nurse, Pat was very knowledgeable about antiques. She thrilled to the hunt for a great find. Her collections included fine china, linens, books, vintage clothing, and much more. Pat loved animals, especially dogs and horses.
Pat loved her Pennsylvania family and her nieces and nephews, and was very good to them.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by a brother, David A. Hibbard and a brother-in-law, David Kraus.
She is survived by a brother, Allen C. Hibbard, and wife, Jen, South Montrose, PA; a sister, Susan E. Gesford and husband, Dennis, Dimock, Pa.; sister-in-law, Mynalee Hibbard, Quakertown, Pa.; a former sister-in-law, Marjorie Shuman, Springville, Pa.; a step-mother, Marie Hibbard, Montrose; step-sisters; beloved aunts and uncle; many cousins; eight nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Sarasota National Cemetery. Arrangements by Toale Brothers Funeral Home and Crematory , Sarasota.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Animal Shelter of the donor's choice, or the Susquehanna County Library Building Fund, 18 Monument St., Montrose, PA 18801.
