ALEXANDER KING
When at the end of a long and useful life, a man can lay down the burden with the knowledge that he has so lived his life that everyone who knew him or came in contact with him, grieves at his going, he had not lived in vain. Such a man was Mr. King, a faithful neighbor, a true friend, a good man. He left his impression upon the community where he lived and though his body has been laid in the cemetery on the hill north of town, he will still live on in the minds of those who knew him and loved him.
Alexander King was born in Summerset county, Penn., September 1, 1837, and died at his home in Ord , Nebraska, November 2, 1918, aged 81 years, 2 months, and 2 days.
In the fall of 1861 he moved to McLain county, Illinois, where he was married to Anna Bell Morain September 23, 1865. To this union were born two children; William S. of Valley county, Nebraska, and Nora E. deceased. Mrs. King died March 11, 1876, which brought their marriage union of 11 years to a close.
On November 29, 1877 he was united in marriage to Medora Morris, and to this union were born three children: Charles M., Dick, and Maggie all of Valley county, Nebraska.
He united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Fisher, Illinois, in 1879.
He left Illinois in 1883 moving to Holt county, Nebraska and later in 1892 moved to Valley county, and in October 1910, came to Ord, where he resided to the time of his death.
The funeral services were held in the cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, and were largely attended by neighbors and friends. Rev. Hosman officiated.
The members of the family wish us to say to the public that they appreciate the many kindnesses shown them by neighbors and friends during the illness and after the death of their beloved husband and father.
