This afternoon at 3:30 o'clock members of Chemung Chapter, D. A. R. assembled at the Second Street cemetery where the grave of Elijah Jones, a soldier of the American Revolution was marked with a bronze marker, which bears the name of the soldier, the statement of his having served in the war of the American Revolution and that the tablet was erected by Chemung Chapter, D. A. R. A brief ritual service was conducted by Mrs. Ernest L. Wyckoff a regent of Chemung chapter (Star Gazette, Elmira, New York, June 29, 1911).

Elijah Jones born 8 May 1748 Darien, Fairfield County, Connecticut son of Elijah Jones and Martha Reed who were married 4 July 1745 Darien. Elijah maried 8 Sept 1771 (Norwalk vital record) in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut, Hannah Raymond born c. 1750 daughter of Simeon Raymond and wife, Hannah. Elijah is related to have served in the American Revolution. Enumerated in Stamford and Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut in 1790 with one male of age sixteen and over (b. before 1774), three males under age sixteen (b. 1775-90), and five females. Enumerated in Norwalk in 1800 with two males under age ten (b. 1791-1800), one male of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1785-90), one male of age forty five and over (b. before 1755), two females under age ten (b. 1791-1800), one female of age twenty six and under age forty five (b. 1756-1774), and one female over age forty five (b. before 1755). They are related to have removed about 1805 (not 1798 per some histories and biographies) to what is now Chemung County, New York from Norwalk, Connecticut, perhaps having stopped briefly in Morristown, New Jersey. The 1799 through 1803 assessment lists for Newtown (that part that is now Elmira and Southport) exist and Elijah does not appear. Enumerated in Elmira, Tioga County (Southport and Chemung County not yet formed), New York in 1810 with two males of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1795-1800), four males of age sixteen and under age twenty six (b. 1785-94), one male over age forty five (b. before 1765), one female of age ten and under age sixteen (b. 1795-1800), and one female over age forty five (b. before 1765). Elijah and the households of sons Simeon and Elijah Jr., were all enumerated near each other, location within what is now Chemung County unknown but not in the Seeley Creek Valley where the Marvin, Pedrick, and White families were enumerated and known to be living. Elijah is related to have died 19 Feb 1817 related to have perhaps been buried Wisner Burying Ground in Elmira, removed to Second Street Cemetery, but documentation is lacking to make this assertion.
