He was born March 25, 1960 in Buchanan, Michigan, the middle of five children of Donald and Mildred (Adams) Baxter. He married Marlene Kay Whitaker October 6, 1979 in Niles, Michigan. She survives.
Don was a car guy. He had owned a total of fifty seven cars, and the older they were, the better. He was known as “the little guy” who loved working on stuff, whether cars or lawn mowers or golf carts. If it had an engine or motor he would try to make it go faster. Don was an all around honest good guy.
Donald will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of over thirty eight years, Marlene (Whitaker) Baxter of Vandalia; three daughters, Misti (Jeremy) Gant of Niles, Amber (Shane) Warehime of Dowagiac, Kalene (Elvis Irving) Baxter of Cassopolis; one son, Adam (Roseann) Baxter of Cassopolis; seven grandchildren, Honey Gant, Emme Gant, Melanie Greenleaf, Tyler Greenleaf, Carrera Warehime, Phoenix Warehime, Cayman Warehime; one great granddaughter, Lilliann Wiswell; his parents, Donald and Mildred Baxter of Vandalia; sisters, Diane Schelkopf of North Carolina, Sally (Gary) Secor of Lawton; brothers, Daniel Baxter of Elkhart, Clifford “Sonny” (Tammy) Baxter of Niles; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will observe a private remembrance.
