In memoriam of Jonathan Michael Murphy, 11/13/1974 - 01/22/2017

Jonathan Murphy, 42

"A hero is someone who has given his life to something bigger than oneself." - Joseph Campbell

In a true act of valor, Jonathan "Jon" Michael Murphy of Cibolo, Texas tragically lost his life on January 22, 2017 protecting his dearest beloved and those around him.

He entered this world as the eldest son of Robert and (the late) Gretchen Murphy on November 13, 1974 in Wiesbaden, Hessen, Germany. From a military family, they would move frequently before calling San Antonio home. Jon graduated from Taft High School in 1993. He started his career as a car salesman with Legend Kia showcasing hard work and dedication that earned him a promotion to sales manager. After five years of diligent service with Legend, he was transferred to manage at World Car Hyundai.

The shining star of Jon's life was his wife, Aimee, who he met in 2008. The couple married on March 3, 2009. The epitome of a family man, Jon took on the role of dad to Aimee's children and raised them as though they were his own.

The measure of a man is defined by his actions and Jon will always be remembered for his benevolent, generous, and altruistic spirit. Those close to him will recall that Jon had a profound respect for the police and the Marines and he lived his life in accord with the discipline and values that each represent. Although he was unable to enlist in the Marine Corps, he exemplified an immense patriotism.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Gretchen. He leaves behind his loving, devoted wife, Aimee; their children, Amber, Tyler, Kristen, and Ayden; his father, Robert; his brothers, Sean, Jeremy and his wife, Misty. Along with his family, Jon will be deeply missed by numerous extended family, co-workers, and friends.

The Good Samaritan killed in a jewelry store heist on Sunday afternoon has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner as Jonathan Murphy, 42.

A GoFundMe page described him as a family man and Sales manager at World Car Hyundai.

Police say Murphy tried to stop two men who stormed into Kay Jewelers, at Rolling Oaks Mall, trying to rob it on Sunday afternoon Jan. 22, 2017.

** From his GoFundMe page**

This weekend, Jon and his wife Aimee used their rare day off to go to the mall together and get their wedding rings cleaned. While they were there, two horrible people decided to rob the store and threaten the safety of Jon's wife and everyone else. Jon, the protector, lost his life making sure nobody else did.

Jon loved Harleys, the Marine Corps (he was a huge supporter to the point of having a patriotic tribute to the Corps in a glass case in his living room, but wasn't able to serve himself), and being a good man, but over everything else I believe he loved his wife and family. Like Jon, Aimee and the rest of Jon's family are strong. But, they could use all the love and support they can get right now. Any form of support would be appreciated.
