Joyce A. Barr, age 85, of Cheboygan passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017 at Hancock Haven. She was born Dec. 21, 1931 in Cheboygan, the daughter of Alex and Albina (O’Connors) Gouine. On Oct. 28, 1950 in Flint, Joyce married George Barr who preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2008. Joyce had worked as the Aloha Township Clerk for 37 years and retired in 2004. She was also the Secretary for the Cheboygan County Farm Bureau for 10 years where she and George were voted Farmers of the Year in 1986. She had served on the Cheboygan County Jury Board for 10 years and was a foster parent for many years. She was a member of St.Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church and enjoyed quilting and lawn care. Survivors include her five sons; Edward (Denise) Barr, Bruce (Nancy) Barr and John (Wanda) Barr, all of Cheboygan, Chester (Gloria) Ptasnik of Montrose, Joe (Dawn) Barr of Cheboygan and her daughter, Susan (Stephen) Eno of Cheboygan, two brothers-in-law, Bryant Barr and Gasper Panik, 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, George, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Allen Barr and three sisters; RoseAnn Panik, Lorraine Wing and Emma Brou. Visitation will be held at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 from 3 – 7 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Duane Wachowiak officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Aloha Historical Society. Courtesy of Stone Funeral Home.
