She was born on February 18, 1922 in Chicago, Ill., to Jefferson Hobart and Ada Frances(Smith)Burns.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry Leon Turner(wife, Cynthia Craig)of Senoia, Ga., Thomas Leonard Turner(wife, Ruth Ann)of Powder Springs. Ga., and Allen Kenyon Turner(companion Thelma Ramsey) of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren, Aimee Downer, Andrew Turner, Teresa Skojac-Henry, MD., Tony Skojac, Tamara Payton, Derek Turner and Brandon Turner SSG(IN), 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Frances Burns Buell Farmer, two brothers, Gene A. Burns and William L. Burns.
Liz lived in this area most of her lifetime and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1939.
She was a seamstress at Elanjay Corp. for several years and had worked in house keeping at Farmer's National Bank in Shelbyville for 13 years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of West Street United Methodist Church for over 70 years and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. She was also a member of International Ladies Garment Workers Local for 32 years. Liz loved bowling and was a good cook. She was a legendary pie maker especially strawberry rhubarb pies.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, Indiana with Pastor Reid Walker officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 4-8 p.m.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Memorials may be made to West Street United Methodist Church or donor's favorite charity c/o the funeral home.
