Walter Watson "Bud" Carr, Sr., 88, of Jamestown passed away peacefully on January 16, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Mary Catherine "Kay" (Shirley) Carr for sixty years.
A 10th generation Jamestowner, Bud was born and raised on Carr Farm, attended the Carr School and Rogers High School before joining the army at the end of World War II. He served in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement with military operations. A lifelong resident of Jamestown, a son of the late George Caleb and Hope (Higgins) Carr, he was a direct descendent of the Colonial Governor, Caleb Carr.
After the war, he attended Bryant College, worked as a field analyst for the former BIF/Chemcon for nineteen years, later working as a software analyst for General Dynamics for twenty years before retiring. After retirement, he worked as a shuttle driver for the airport.
Mr. Carr served on the Jamestown Town Council for seven years. He was a former member of the Jamestown Lions Club and the Elks Club.
An avid sailor and a scratch golfer, he also enjoyed bowling, dancing and playing pool. He was a member of the North Kingstown Senior Center.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two children, Elizabeth Carr Stevens of Providence and Walter W. Carr, Jr. of Jamestown; a brother, Perry Carr of CA; two sisters, Phyllis Lowell of Gorham, NH and Nancy Sonne of Henrico, VA; two grandchildren, Olivia Catherine McGowan and Caleb Carr Stevens; beloved nieces Pamela Carr and Carolyn Sears; and his dog Bailey. He was the father of the late Leah Carr McGowan; and brother of the late Lucy Carr Jenkins, George Caleb, Theodore, Thomas, David and Robert Carr.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, January 28th at Central Baptist Church in Jamestown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Providence VA Medical Center will be appreciated.
