Donald R. Higdon, 92 of Marquette Heights, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Amy’s Country Manor in Pekin.

Born December 21, 1924 in Griggsville, to James F. and Ellen M. (Peecher) Higdon, he married Rena Hatfield on November 19, 1944 in Hannibal, MO. She died October 3, 2016 in Pekin. Also preceding him in death are his parents; one granddaughter; one brother and two sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Rene (Don) Westlake of Morton; one son, Larry Higdon of Okeechobee, FL; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Don worked 33 years for Caterpillar, Inc., retiring in 1982 as an inspector.

Don served in the United States Marine Corps during the WWII era.

He enjoyed his family, playing the piano, traveling around the United States and Canada in their travel trailer, gardening, working in his yard and tending to his flowers. He also loved running in 5Ks, the Steamboat Classic and several other competitions.

Don was an active member of Pekin Bible Church where his funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017. Pastor Chad Nightingale will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:30 until 11:15 a.m. at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps and the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Burial will be at a later date in Grandview Cemetery in Hannibal, MO. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amy’s Country Manor, 2949 S. 14th Street, Pekin, IL 61554 or to Pekin Bible Church, 2405 Court Street, Pekin, IL 61554.
