John LeRoy Swartley - 85, of Souderton, PA; formerly of Earlington, PA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

He was the loving husband of Ada A. (Metz) Swartley for 64 years. John was born in Gardenville, PA to the late Henry & Ida (Myers) Swartley.

He was employed by Rosenbergers Dairies in Hatfield, as a commission merchant in Philadelphia and a tire salesman at Bergeys in Franconia. John volunteered at the Care and Share Thrift Shoppes and the Mennonite Resource Center, both of Souderton. He was an avid reader who enjoyed biking, gardening, fruit growing & grafting and puzzles. John loved listening to music and going to concerts with his wife. He had a great sense of humor. John was a member of Salford Mennonite Church.

In addition to his wife, he was survived by: two daughters, Christine Metz Schwab of Graham, NC, Laurel Anne Landis Alleger & husband, Richard of Harleysville, PA; a son, J. Ed Swartley & wife, Teresa of Elkhart, IN; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Martens & husband, John of Chester, VT; a brother, Willard Swartley & wife, Mary of Elkhart, IN; two sisters-in-law, Esther Swartley of Sellersville, PA and Ida Swartley of Harrisonburg, VA.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by: a sister, Marian Myers and four brothers, Emerson, Henry, Clifford and Kenneth Swartley.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Salford Mennonite Church, Harleysville, PA.
Inurnment was at Salford Mennonite Cemetery.
