Clifton Doyle Carpenter, age 76, of Hamburg, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017 at his son’s residence in Choudrant, La. He was a retired appliance repairman and owner of Sears in Hamburg. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Freeman and Lala Emory-Carpenter; two brothers, Glynn Carpenter and Quintin Freeman; four sisters, Emma Jean Hazel-White, Mattie Ruth Threlkeld, Mary Louise Thomas and Marjorie Nathalee Moore; and one grandchild, Seth Carpenter.

He is survived by two sons, Clifton “Bucky” Carpenter Jr. (wife Denna) of Greenbriar and Robert Carpenter (wife Melissa) of Choudrant; two brothers, William Oliver Carpenter of Hamburg and James Edwin Carpenter of Monticello; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 at Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church, 765 Ashley 70 Rd, Hamburg, AR 71646 with Bro. Trey Emory officiating. Pallbearers were John Sanderlin, Mike Sanderlin, Ronnie Lauhon, Jackie Lauhon, Mike Riley, and Bill Wallace. Honorary pallbearers were Charles “Bull” Wells, Dale Lauhon, Julien Estelle, Dewey Scutter Kilcrease, Daniel Carpenter and Bob Rush.

Burial was in Promise Land Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home.
