Norman Kenneth Burnett, 90, passed away at Humboldt General Hospital on January 16, 2017. He was born in Fairbank, Iowa on October 28, 1926, to Kenneth and Vernita Burnett.

His childhood was spent in Fairbank excelling in sports and school. Any chance he had he was fishing on the “Little Wapsi” river. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Upon discharge, he attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in Accounting. Norm became a devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved going to sporting events and watching them on TV. He went to Hawkeye games whenever he and Helen were back in Iowa they attended several Hawkeye bowl games with his children and family including the Rose Bowl in 1993.

Norman began working as a CPA in 1952. He continued this occupation for many years until he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Iowa Society of CPA’s and the Nevada Society of CPA’s, the United Methodist Church where he served as a member of the Board of Directors, he was a Board Administrator for Humboldt County Fair and Recreation Board, and he was also a Member of the Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce and served as a Director. He was a Life Member of the Lions Club and Lions Eye and Ear Foundation of Nevada and served as the secretary/treasurer for 14 years.

Norman married Marilyn Goeller from 1948-1972 and 2 boys, Robert and Craig, were brought into this world. He raised his sons to be honest, trustworthy, generous and detailed men. He taught them the love of sports, traveling and fishing. Two years later he married Helen Burnett and they moved to Winnemucca. This was their home until his death.

Norman and his family loved to fish and hunt. Norman and his two sons travelled to Canada every year to fish. When he retired, he and Helen loved to go fishing especially at Hinkey Summit. They took their trailer across the nation sightseeing and fishing.

Norman is survived by his wife Helen, son Robert (Alyce) Burnett from Des Moines, Iowa, daughter in law Judi Burnett of Clovis California, Grandchildren Rebecca (Jason) Rothmeyer, Rob (Alyssa) Burnett, Rudy (Marilyn) Palomino, and Nick Burnett; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Vernita Burnett, his son Craig S. Burnett, and his two brothers, John and Ray Burnett.

A special thanks to the Humboldt General Hospital Auxiliary Board, Pastors Judy and Gayle, caregivers Angie, Gabby, and Maria for their help in the last two years, and all the friends of the Winnemucca United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Winnemucca United Methodist Church, 138 W. Winnemucca Blvd. A viewing will be held at 10:00 am. Burial will be at the Winnemucca Cemetery. There will be a reception to follow.
