Margaret Louise Welch passed away peacefully at her home in Fairview

Margaret Louise Welch passed away peacefully at her home in Fairview in the loving care of her four surviving children & their spouses following a courageous battle with cancer.

The second of Roland & Alma Jackson's seven children, she lived nearly all of her life in Fairview–53 years in the same neighborhood. She attended Fairview Grade School & Girls Polytechnic in Portland. Margaret married Gerald R. Welch on June 2, 1951 in Stevenson, WA. Their marriage endured until Gerald's death nearly 62 years later.

Margaret exemplified the Proverbs 31 woman. As a wife, mother & homemaker, she was industrious, frugal & served others, always putting the needs of others before her own. She could can & pickle almost anything–her relish tray was prized at family gatherings. After raising her family, she worked as a substitute cook for Reynolds School District. But Margaret was happiest outdoors—picnicking & camping with her family, tending her garden & flowers, in the woods hunting deer or casting her line into a great trout fishing hole.

Margaret deeply loved & was proud of her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. And she had a quiet, abiding faith. Now with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, she leaves a legacy of beautiful memories for all who knew and loved her including her daughter, Christine Lewallen (David), sons Donald Welch (Susan), Terry "Pete" Welch (Lynne) & Joseph Welch; daughter-in-law Patricia Welch; grandchildren Michelle Welch Neill (Jon), Sheila Lewallen Comer (Russ), Daniel Lewallen, Heather Welch Luarca (Joe), Mindy Welch Walker (Josh), Laura Welch Martinez (Raul), Rodger Welch, Katelyn Welch (Tony Holmes), Brogan Welch (Katie Clark), Bailey Welch (Caleb Mendoza), Juan Pablo & Ignacio Hernandez; great-grandchildren Kira Luarca, Andrea & Leah Comer, Audrey & Bridger Walker and Arthur, Briseyda, Araceli, Sabrigan, Fareneliz, Juan & Roland Martinez, Conner & Kendall Holmes, brothers Bob, Dave & "Bud" (Nelda) Jackson; sisters Jean Erickson & Shirley Robbins; & numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Jerry & sister Myrtle.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017, 1:00 pm, at Wood Village Baptist Church. The family suggests contributions in her honor to Knight Cancer Institute, OHSU Foundation, Mail Stop 45, PO Box 4000, Portland, OR 97208.
