Following an extended illness, Lafayette M. Chappell (1900-1949) succumbed Saturday night in a local hospital. The remains were forwarded Sunday afternoon to Elizabeth City, N.C., for funeral services and burial.
The deceased was born and reared in Edenton, N.C. For some while he was a resident of the Palatka area, and about two years ago moved to Hastings, to engage in farming. He is survived by his wife and a son, Joe Chappell of Hastings; four sisters, Mrs. Lena Hooper of Baltimore, Mrs. Maggie Burch, Mrs. Pauline Osten and Mrs. Annie May Astric, of Norfolk, Va., and two brothers, Walter Chappell of Virginia Beach, Va., and George Chappell of Tyner, N.C.
