Marie Duteau was the daughter of Pierre Duteau, a porter, (1607-1658) and Jeanne Perrin (1615-?). Her paternal grandparents were Mathelin Duteau and Jeanne Pouvreau. Her maternal grandparents were David Perrin and Jeanne Daniau, who were married on August 4, 1614 in Saint Yon. She most likely came to New France because her father was ill. He died a few months after Marie left.

Michel married Marie Catherine Jobin on April 22, 1686 in Champlain.
They had seven children together.
