Dewitt L Slay Dies; Drugstore Manager

Dewitt L Slay, 49, a Peoples Drug Stores manger here for the last 19 years died in Doctors Hospital yesterday after a brief illness.

Mr Slay, who had lived at 5406 Allan road, Westgate, MD, was a native of Waynesboro, Miss. He joined the Navy a a youth and was stationed here for six years as a pharmacist's mate. When his enlistment was up in 1926, he went to work for the drug firm.

He served as pharmacist, assistant manager and manager of several company stores. For the last three years he had been manager of the drug store at 2529 Pennsylvania Avenue SE.

Mr Slay was a member of King David Masonic Lodge, and was interested in Police Boys' Club activities.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs Althea Kilgore Slay; a son, Dewitt L Slay, Jr, a student at the University of Maryland, and three brothers. The are Paul Slay of Tampa Fla; Sam Slay, Waynesboro, and Howard Slay, Laurel Miss.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm tomorrow in the Hines Funeral Home, 2901 Fourteenth Street, NW, Burial will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
